Obituary: Ruth E. Dickinson

The Ottawa Sun reports that Ottawa library pioneer Ruth E. Dickinson has died.

In 1955, Dickinson founded the Nepean Public Library, operating it out of her living room. When the City of Ottawa was formed 2001 and the library systems amalgamated, the Nepean system had grown to include four branches.

Barrhaven Councillor Jan Harder, chair of the Ottawa Library Board, called Ruth Dickinson a “cheery” lady and a community “champion” in Nepean.
The Ruth E. Dickinson Branch of the Ottawa Public Library was opened in 1980 and named in her honour.
