CASLIS Ottawa Student Social

Thanks to Margaret Wilson, a recent UWO graduate and Research and Resources Librarian at Department of National Defence, for volunteering to write a summary of the CASLIS Student Social last week.

****************************************

On Wednesday January 24th, CASLIS Ottawa hosted an informal meet and greet at Patty Boland's in the Byward Market. More than 15 people from the library community came out including the CASLIS Ottawa executive, Jen Gavin, Cabot Yu, Magali Nayet and Claire Banton, as well as co-op students and other library professionals. It was my first CASLIS event as a full librarian and appreciated being able to talk to people in the profession as well as students. The mix of students and professionals is always a great way to exchange new ideas from academia for the wisdom of experience.

UWO co-op students were in the majority among the students (as usual - I was one only a few months ago ) but a few students from Algonquin College and a student from Université de Montréal also joined us and everyone was able to compare schools and programs.

President Jen Gavin greeted us at the beginning of the night, thanking us for coming and reminding everyone about the Making the Business Case Workshop on Feb 21st. She then presented us with the aptly named "Colossal Platter" (which included delicious zucchini sticks, breaded calamari, potato wedges, nachos, and more) which fed us all.

Overall it was a successful night of library gossip and good food.

Hope you'll come out to the next event,

Margaret Wilson
