Library and Archives Canada has announced cuts to service hours starting September 1, 2007.

Registration Desk
Current: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
New: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Reference Services Room (2nd floor)
Current: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
New: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Reference Collection Room (2nd floor)
Current: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
New: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Textual Documents Consultation Room (3rd floor)
8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., daily

Restricted Documents Consultation Room (3rd floor)
Current: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
New: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Special Collections Consultation Room (3nd floor)
Current: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

The following rooms will be open but unstaffed:

  • Consultation rooms: textual records, restricted documents, audiovisual records and microfilm
    Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 10 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 12 to 6 p.m
  • Canadian Genealogy Centre
    Saturdays and Sundays, 12 to 6 p.m

On the topic of the National Archives, what's up with the Canadian Book Exchange Centre (CBEC)? Rumour around town is that LAC's attempts to do away with CBEC made its way up to the Minister of Canadian Heritage who told Ian and friends to slow down. At least some one is paying attention.

And what's this about LAC management wondering why they offer ILL services?
