Ottawa libraries could close under budget freeze: chair
CBC Ottawa is running a story about the impact on the Ottawa Public Library of Mayor Larry O'Brien's zero percent tax increase.
If the mayor's promised zero per cent tax increase also freezes the library budget, several branches could close and programs could be cut, says the city's library board chair.
Jan Harder said Thursday that a budget increase for the library is non-negotiable.
"This is not going to be a zero budget year because [what that] means is that all of the people services, all of the services that matter the most to the public are the ones that are going to be nailed."
