National School Library Day - Monday, October 27th, 2008

Monday, October 27th, is National School Library Day.

First proclaimed in 2003, National School Library Day is part of a wide initiative by many groups aimed at raising awareness about the critical role of school libraries. It coincides with International School Library Day which was initiated in 1999. In common with many schools across Canada and around the world, the Canadian Association for School Libraries (CASL) will be celebrating Canada’s sixth National School Library Day with special activities communicating the role of school libraries in Canadian education, society, and culture.

Across the country, school library staff will be holding book fairs, celebrating excellence in school library programs, distributing newsletters, hosting guest speakers, and linking up with community organizations to highlight the vital role of school libraries in the lives of Canada’s children.
